Houston Texas was a massive slamdown.

Before we took the roll to H. Town, we spent the day hanging in Austin for the day (BOOM! bad grammer). Doing laundry, hanging with the amazingly lovely Trilby Nelson, using puuters, and seeing our master-bros The Poison Control Center slay the day away at a bike shop. Twas chill.

Then in drove to Houston to play some beats at Super Happy Fun Land. We saw some dopeass bands, we drank some dopeass green beer in honor of our boy Patrick.

THEN WE PLAYED SOME SLAMMING BEATS. It was my (philip) first show of the tour and it felt like diving into a pool of lava covered in chocolate. Fucking lava covered in chocolate. Lava. Chocolate.

After out set ma main bru Dom threw down his FIRST EVER WORLD PREMIER Little Ruckus set. It was third level. Jaw shitting, game stopping, death match winning.

Next, Mumford's. We've seen this band over one thousand times, and this was one of the most

savage things we've seen created by humans.

Hustle: a tour, a sweatpower joyride

We've been on tour for a couple of dayze now and ive negrlected to post stuff. to busy constanly huslting to give a fuck. too little time too many mockinbirds, fuck man...

Phil went to a wedding in seattle, all like rainy n shit. he met Mumford's and I (Dom) in Austin.
Mumford's and i had a couple of shows on the way down to austin, i played some solo Coyote Slingshot shows on my own with my ipod on the way down. plus played some Trombonners with mumford's and some Little Ruckus freestyling on there song Kiss The Ring. Which is coming out on a split seven inch with the WHEELERS.

So we started out heading to kansas city where we straigh up didnt play a show but instead chilled with some ames homies in who now live in KAY SEE.

Then we headed to Norman OK to chill with our homies and city council members RHETT MICHAL JONES AND STEPHEN TYLER HOLMAN!

we played in rhett's apartment with homies PALEO! which featured Skye Carrasco on Violin!
HOLLA YAY!

I played a Coyote Slingshot set and broke a string on the first song so i played with my microphone and my CD player, which was skipping a bunch, it was loud, the noise was brought, moreso angrey and spaztic than actually good, (more on things being actaully good later.)

We ate some real dank food at a place called the diner in the mornin and Continued on our way to TULZA!

in Tulsa we went to the venue but no one was there, it was called tulsa backwards. AKA
a slut! susspisiouse.

we found out after a long time of waiting to load in that the show was cancelled by checking the facebook of another band that the show was cancelled

WE WENT INTO FULL FUCKING HUSTLE MODEEEEE!!!!

we broke up into groups and went around to all the bars we could find and axxxed them if we could play a show for them

Me and nate (dom'n'nate) Dominate, went to the yellow brick road, tulsa's number one Lesbian ciggarette bar and found out from WAYNE that his roomate is the doorlady at the Soundpony! a few phone calls and some GPS later we were there playing a show! it went real well

we stayed with Wayne and Adriana and partied hardcore. we found out awesomely that Adriana and a buncha other peeps had heard of and where into our Iowa pop-punk mistresses LIPSTICK HOMICIDE! YO TULSA PEEPS!

Then we hustled down to DENTON! played at J and J's Pizza!

Throughout the Whole Tour I was worried that my ipod (that i use to play tracks off of while i ac a fool and sing n play guitar n drum machine) might run out of batteries. cuz i forgot my charger and you can't fucking get ipod shuffle chargers anymore... :(

AND LO AND BEHOLD IT DID RUN OUT! while i was playing my only SXSW show. the only time since a year ago that i got to play songs for richard, my ipod ran out while playing a show for him.

BUT DID THE HUSTLE STOP!?!?!?!

Me and chris stayed behind to party. we danced so hard richard gave us drink tickets for bringing POSITIVE vibes to the show, he said we should get paid to get down. One girl came up to us and was like

"WHERE DID YAL:L LEARN TO DANCE?!?!"

we were like, "yo we tour together all the time, we learn to dance from the spirit of life!"

and she was like "oh snap yall jus go on tour and dance at shows?!?"

we was like "bitch please, we tour and blow minds with rock n roll every day."

we walked home and randomly ran into SCARLETT the Duchess of Denton.

we heard some gunshots and went pee in a vacent lot.

we slept outside under the texas moonlight.

Aug 20th-22cd: Minot, Bismark, Fargo NORTH DAKOTA!

OH MY GOD WE'RE MAKING SO MUCH MONEY!!!

Anyways.

Other than California, which was our conquering destination of the summer, we played more shows in North Dakota than any other state in the United States of America. HOW CHILL IS THAT?!!

Here goes...

1) MINOT!

Here's the answer: FUCK YEAH MINOT!

Billy of Father, Son, and the Holy Smokes, along with a posse of invincible warriors from Minot got together and created the glowing-beast that is the Why Not, Minot??!festival.

We played in an art gallery called 62 doors. The show, the gallery, the festival, the vibes --- the whole experience left the sweet, raw aftertaste of inspiration in all our little hearts.

Thanks for letting us be a part of such an incredible culture that you have created, truly from the ground up.

2) BISMARK!

Here's what happened in Bismark: WILDMAN PLAYED… wait, hold on... sit down and hold onto your life and really think this one out after you read it.

WILDMAN PLAYED NAKED!

Mumford's last song was about to start and there was a funny smell in the air. Like burnt hair. Or maple syrup. I dunno. THEN! He pulled down his boxers (the only thing between him and his truth) to revel the UNIVERSE to Bismark North Dakota. He sat with his tuba, playing the song, being truth, holding the room in a hot moment of discovery which forever changed the inner life of the human race.

Wildman: You are an inspiration. You are my father and my child. You are the light in every animals eyes. We love you.

Other things happened too. Like racism and homophobia. But mainly Wildman got naked.

3) FARGO!

The might be a long post, BUT DON'T SKIP THIS PART! Unless you don't like truth.

Remember back in the early 1900s when we played a show in Colorado Springs? We met some bands from Fargo there. And being immortal badasses, they invited us to their town, their home, and booked a show for us. We made a lot of friends on this trip, but the Sunrise/Sunset crew became family, and we can't wait to return the favor.

The show was the 8th wonder of the world. And that isn't because we of this Hoop Dreamz tour rock harder than Mozart, that's because the people of Fargo are apparently all angels and power rangers combined.

If anyone is reading this, and you live in Fairfield, you should probably start preparing your emotions now for when this band comes through. They're going to rip every single heart in our town to shreds. Little glowing shreds which we'll be left to pick up and put back together to a new, better us.

Seriously. They're really fucking good.

IN THE END

North Dakota: the end of the world may be near, but we held each other close and learned what it means to know.

After a hard round of goodbyes in Portland we teleported to Spokane Wash to play a show and do some Cokane in Spokane. (Just kidding mom!)

The show was DownAsFuck - we played in a burrito shop and got free burritos, which is better than winning the lottery. In Portland we played in a church, and the next night in a burrito store. We were winning life.

Spokane was cool enough, and we met some really great people (Thanks Chris and Angela for the place to stay and good ass vibes!). I will say though, being spit on and yelled at by a crazy woman who dressed like a man-child-rap-star-wanna-be was kinda dumb...

AND ALSO! We got to see! //MARCUS //TANYA //MAKENSIE //RACHEL on their way to Portland. THANKS FOR COMING YO! We'll miss you Marcus.

The next morning we woke up and time traveled to Missoula Montana. Let me tell you something right now: FUCK YES MISSOULA!

We played at an incredible art space called ZACC. First, The Keys Knees. Next, Mumford's. Mumford's are assassin's. A murder posse. Their guns are hearts. Their victim is America.

Then we played and it was a miracle.

Also a band called Goddamnit Boyhowdy played and killed souls. They called them selves Rez Punk, because they're Native Americans who play punk with the fury of God.

In the end: tonight. forever.

Here's the thing: everyone loves their friends and family. Except for maybe racist, homophobic fuck face people, who are ruining everyone's vibe all the time. But that aside --- here's the thing: sometimes a whole butt load of your friends and a little of your family all migrate to Portland, leaving you high and dry and as sad as a bunch of dead dogs on a hot highway, left to rot and listen to the trucks plow by with your dead ears in the hot midwestern sun…

So your like, "let's go on tour! LET's GO TO PORTLAND WHERE THE LOVE IS THICK AND UNDYING!! "

That's what happened to us. And Christ, let me tell you, we could have stayed a whole shit load of a lot longer, and it wouldn't have been long enough.

So this is a special message to all of our friends and family and people in PDmotherfuckingX: WE LOVE YOU. WE MISS YOU. IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE YOU AGAIN, even if just for a hot, nasty second. I hope you cry when you read this, like I'm doing writing it.

It's like a magic ship.

Aug 8th and 9th: Santa Cruz and Berkeley!

Look at the Home of the Brave's beautiful nose.

We rolled out of LA super duper late due to diarrhe-ahhhh related issues, pushing our arrival time in Santa Cruz to FUCKING LATE AHHH!

We were due at the Subrosa Anarchist Cafe at 6:00, but we got there at a painfully tardy 8:30. Fortunately, everyone is cooler than god damn cold bean salad, and the show went blissfully. Mumford's slayed. Then we played our queitest set of the tour (the cops came during Mumford's set and were lyk "fucking chill. you're killing it too hard."). But despite the quiet, it was the first show of the tour to achieve crowd surfing status.

Moes played too. I love you Moes.

The next day we did some hard chillin in Santa Cruz before driving to Berkley, to do more hard chillin.

We played at a housing co-op that Moes used to live in. Something like 150 kids live there during the school year. It was a wicked place of youthful rebellion, love, and marijuana. And it was a fun as shit place to rock and roll!

Aug. 6th and 7th: San Clemente and Los Angeles!

After San Diego we had no idea what to do with ourselves. The good people of The Park gallery let us crash in their space, and we all got some seriously good sleep in, as we'd driven all night the night before. But we had no show that night, and as a result, no home.

FORTUNATELY! Our good friend and fellow Fairfield rock and roll missionary Nate Headrick came to our rescue and let us stay with him at his beautiful, mellow parent's house in San Clemente.

Let me list off the things that Nate and dad Gary and mom Laurie hooked us up with:

- a place to stay.

- a pizza dinner with beer and salad.

- a house of friends to play an impromptu show to.

- a pancake breakfast.

- a trip to the beach.

- a rented surf board and a surfing lesson.

- fire.

- love.

- light.

In effect: Thank you Nate Headrick!!! We love you and can't wait to take you and Josie out to dinner when we get back to Fairfield!

After an early morning at the beach we drove to LA for an early (very early - like mid afternoon) show at a GREAT diy house called the Malo Funhouse. Here's a list of the dope ass shit this space had going on:

- Show space.

- Internet radio station.

- Art space.

- Sweet ass art on all the walls.

- Drawing jamz every week.

- Cleanliness.

- Grilled cheese sandwiches.

- Etc.

- Love.

- Truth.

- And so much more.

Band's played from around 3 until around 9. It was an awesome Saturday afternoon chill fest. I'm pretty sure it was better than that other big show that happened that weekend in Chicago...

We got to meet up with our awesome baller friend Moes from Oakland. Here he is playing an incredibly meditative Red Coyote set.

LA left us all feeling high as pie.

Aug 4th and 5th: Scottsdale, AZ to San Diego!

We rolled into Scottsdale Arizona at around 4 pm to a HARD ass 120 degree heat. We didn't understand how it was so hot. It was alien. It was death. It was the big, hot eyes of the devil.

Our show was at a bar called The Rouge. When we unloaded during the day it was a total biker-bar vibe of day drinking in the dark. We were pretty sure we were all gonna get murdered for being homosexuals.

Before the show we made up some flyers and hustled our way around Scottsdale, bothering sk8tr punx, Urban Outfitter clerks, bar crawling bros, and the general hussy population. We we're all, "We're Iowanz. Git fucked.".

By the evening the crowd had switched to a touch less biker crowd. The sound guy let us throw Dark Crystal on their projector during our set, which was as awesome as it sounds. Our set was like, BOOM!

Then Mumford's set was like, BOOM!

After the show we made an executive decision to drive through the night to San Diego. It was a beautiful decision. The desert night was like a crystal. The air silent and vibrant as we sliced through the mountains across the hot hot hot american southwest. Dreams were coming true. Truths were being born. Stars were forming in our heads until the sun rose over the breathtaking California mountains.

We greeted the dawn as we best know how - with our dreamz and with our hoops.

In San Diego we had the great fortune of playing our show at an art gallery called The Park.

It was an amazing space and a fun assss show. Mumford's slayed first, with Nate at one point throwing his shirt out the window. I like to think it hit some one outside, soaking them with his sweat, and they spontaneously combusted from the DEEP VIBE.

Then we turned the lights off, turned the strobes up, gave everyone 2 hits of E, threw glittered into the crowd, and played our set ac cappella while everyone gave us massages. Shit was real.

Aug 1st and 2cd: Colorado Springs and Albuquerque!

Before leaving DenverTown we went down to the Capital Building to hoop our dreamz in the big-face of Colorado's capital building.

Later we took the short stint to Colorado Springs to play a Sunday night show at a spot called The Rocket Room. It was looking like it was gonna be a sleepy night, but it turned out to be a killer party with 2 other beautiful touring bands, the world's best sound guy (who made us sound like a fantasy on their awesome PA, AND let us crash at his place! BIG UPS DEAN!!), a dance party in the rain, and a genuine dose of Midwest luv, culminating in a giant 4 band group hug (the other 2 touring band's were from Fargo, North Dakota and we all felt the deep pride).

Here's a video of the incredible band Sunrise/Sunset playing a section of the 1/2 hour instrumental revelation of a set (I didn't get video of the other band, Tiny Moving Parts, but they rule too).

I want to take this opportunity to introduce the universe to WildMan. That's him down there in front of our van, The Home of the Brave. He only wears a shirt when the law interferes with him being shirtless. He's a skinny gorilla. He's an American ninja. Two dayz of magic. Two dayz of fever dream. Two dayz of rock and roll healing.

In Lincoln we played at the inspiring house of Ember Schrag called Clawfoot House. Her music is beautiful and inspiring, and so is her house and her little daughter Lillian.

Another thing that was beautiful and inspiring was this massive bowl of unreal salsa that James Doxon made before the show.

Christ, Doxon. How lucky can we be to have a food dude drummer like you on the road? Fucking luckier than a god damn dragon fucking a car.

First Mumford's tore the house down, bringing the heat in fine MumFashion. Then we played a set where my pants fell off. Then an awesome local band called Ron Wax played and tore face. The lead dude in Ron Wax, Ron Wax, also helped start the band LIARS years back. Ron Wax = the truth. Lincoln = blown mind. Ember's 2 year old daughter Lillian = oh my god watch this video.

The next day we said our big thank yous and goodbyes and took the long ass trek to Denver. This is how Mumford's rode the whole way.

Do you think Mumford's gives a fuck? Of course they don't. Asshole.

When we got to Denver we had our minds sufficiently melted by the warehouse/venue called Wazee Union where our show was (check out how awesomely vague and underground their website is). There was a fashion show going on too and we played outside in a patio area. Rumor was that this was this was the first event they'd ever had there. Our new friend Ron (tuns-o-Rons on this little leg of the tour) who does hype-ass-nu-rave shit under the name Hollagramz hooked us up with the show.

I didn't get any pictures, so you're just going to have to imagine a huge coke fueled rave with lazers, drugs, bubbles, and about 1200 people dancing in slow motion, 700 of which are models on ecstasy who are yelling and crying with joy at the ecstatic revelation that is the Mumford's/Utopia Park Hoop Dreamz tour. Yup. I know. Crazy.

ALSO! The most sychronic universal collision happened at this show - we played with a band called THE YELLOW ELEPHANT! So beautiful. So.

After our show my wonderful friend Jocey Dittmer (who lives near Boulder and is awesome) and I (Philip) were like "We're the young and the restless. Let's RAVE." So we drove back to Boulder to catch Hollagramz second set of the night at like 2 (dude's a bad boy). He played a live set and tore my skin off.

Phil's skin ripping off = yup.

Last night saw our two bands last Iowa shows before leaving for a WEST COAST take over, and before I post the big, beautiful string of dates, I want to talk for a sec about how monumental that show was:

Ames Progressive has long been one of, if not our absolute favorite place to play. But last night truly took it to a new height. During our Utopia Park set we managed to break a ceiling tile, get a 50 person whirlpool, crowd surf a number of Mumford's members, and yell our last song out while riding a wave of hands and Ames special brand of love.

THEN! Mumford's played. Not to be dramatic, but (fuck it, here I go) that show will forever live in my heart as a reminder of how beautiful life is. To a completely packed and sweaty room of people, Mumford's played their incredible new album in it's entirety, as well as three more cutz from future albums, and an encore. The sweating, jumping, fist pumping, and almost-crying didn't slow the whole show, building and building until the mass of bodies and souls felt completely together, celebrating, yelling along, and bursting with a rare, sincere joy. I think a good summary of this show is this: Nate Lodgson started the show with long, flowing locks of hair and ended with none.

Seriously Ames, Thank You. We love you so much. You are so warm and real. You inspire us to keep moving in life, for better or worse.

Deep Thoughts On a Deep Chill

Okay.

Touring is bossa nova. If you can, you should. Nate Blogsdon of Mumford's does an AWESOME job telling you how and why you should tour here. (My one addendum is: if you can, GET FOOD STAMPS. Whoa.)

And not to be a dick wagging fuck knuckle or anything, but I don't think we're too bad at it. I'm not saying we're an awesome band (HA!) or that we make tons of muns (more like nuns) - I just think we're pretty good at being on the road. We were in that van for a month and every day was pretty much funny as hell. For every moment of extreme fatigue or finical panic there was a thousand fun things to keep us warm and safe in an unsafe, uncertain world. Maybe it's because the three of us have taken road trips together for years and we've figured out how to exist in those dirty, broke as hell conditions...

WHO AM I KIDDING WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IN FUCKS NAME WE'RE DOING! HA!

We made so many amazing friends on the way, and while probably a total of zero of them will read this THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEART! The kindness of strangers is pretty much the currency of the underground, DIY music world (second only to actual money). Everyone who let us crash on their couch, or play a show in their living room, or bought our CD, or shook our hand, touched us deeply. SERIOUSLY - I don't think people realize how encouraging every "good show" or "nice job" or "you didn't suck butt" actually is to bands like us (or at least this self loathing little dirt shitter...).

And if your reading this, THANK YOU for being a friend as well.

Da Road Home: Houston, Dallas, Norman!

This happened. Ya'll know bout it.

Then we went to Houston to play another show at Super Happy Fun Land. It's a cool place. This is kinda creepy though. Just saying.

An awesome band called Br'er played. They were great, as well as being great guys.

Then we dropped some beats motherfucker. We used the light rig. Which fell on my head at one point. It was a fun show though.

We stayed with our cousin again. Laura is the BEST!

On the way to her house there was broken tree in the road. Look at that shit.

Then we drove to Dallas. Texas is extra serious about elevated highways.

QUICK STORY! On the way to Dallas Dom felt an unpleasant rumbling in his belly. It grew and grew until it finally came out of his mouth, if ya catch my drift. We had to cancel a show at an art opening there. Out of the tens of thousands of shows we've played it was the first show we've ever had to cancel!

He was better the next day, and we rolled into Norman, OK to do one last throw down.

Those two dudes on the end are Universe City. They put together great things for Norman. Thanks Rhett and Steve!

Then on the way home we had our last supper at Olive Garden. Fuck YES. Fuck da haters.

THE DEEP CHILL IS OVER.

Spring is fast approaching. The time is almost upon us: soon we will all be eating massive amounts of BARBECUE from the Thug Estates Grill. I formally invite everyone in the world to our house in Fairfield every night of warm weather forever for massive BBQz forever.

In a few dayz, after all the dirt and dust of all the roads and bars and and public restrooms and wonderful strangers houses has all settled into our deepest hearts, we'll post some final thoughts. We have a lot to assimilate. Good things have been learned.

Mar 17-19: Austin! Our extra special take on SXSW!

After Little Rock we made the long trek down to Austin once again. What goes around comes back around. That pretty much sums up Austin Texas' effect on...well...all bands ever.

This time we were in town for the Coyote Slingshot show at the Super Secret Records showcase show at Beerland. That place is THE BEST and the people who run it are like comic book superheros of rock and roll. Check out this AMAZING sign our homie Max Dropout made. (And I mean this with no irony, despite posting it on a blog. This blog knows it's place as an attempt to entertain friends and family with our wacky misadventures. We ain't no self absorbed music bloggers.)

Dom was stoked.

The show went fantastic! The crowd might not have been huge, but those there were pretty awed. Word is he got some pretty jaded Austin music people stoked, saying things like "this is gonna be the best thing I see at SXSW". Here's a video of "Pickup Everything". My bro...what a dude.

Flailing them arms, as always.

SO THEN! This is where the shit (kinda literally) goes down.

Our digestions have been so hunky dory this whole long trip, but that night's dinner of Wendy's chicken sandwiches was, I guess, one toke over the line.

First it took Hilary. She started feeling bad at the club, pretty much right after Dom's set. When we got home it had developed enough for...well...this to happen. Like, a lot. For a couple days and nights.

It seemed like food poisoning - both from the way she felt, and from the fact that she was the only one sick...

So the next day Dom and I went out and about. Our big to-do was to check out Ghost Mall (our new bros4life after Little Rock) at SnakeBySnakeWest - the Ben Snakepit curated show in the parking lot of I Love Video. We missed their set because we're stupid, but it was rad to see them again!

(The sub mission was to meet Ben Snakepit, which was awesome! We were too bashful to get a pic though, so I got one of this parking sign instead.)

After that we had a few shows we were thinking of checking out, like Pictureplane (which turned out to be the next day...) and Fucked Up in the Beerland parking lot.

But when we were driving around I started to notice some discomfort in my belly...

We skipped the shows and went back to where we were staying.

Then...

Turns out it wasn't food poising.

So our extra special take on South by South West was seeing no shows (except for Dom's), and instead milking the rotten teet of the completely immobilizing hell goblin we humans call 'the stomach flu'.

(You might wonder if Dom is immune or somehow invincible. Nope. As I write this he's trying to drowned out the sound his screaming stomach with dat pink stuff.)

I'm by no means complaining though. There's nothing like puking in the same toilet to bring a couple together. And none of us really minded not seeing any shows. We've been on the road a month, seeing shows almost every night, and even though so many great bands we would love to see live were playing, we were all totally chill about just sitting it out on the side lines. Puking.

Before we left we we're able to snap a photo of this HERO. His name is Richard. He runs Super Secret Records. He embodies what is good about rock and roll, as well as life in general. We love you very much Richard. Thanks for everything.

Mar 15: Little Rock, AR!

Holy macular this show was...well...I'll tell you about it. Our camera ran out of batteries, so we literally got one good picture. This blog is gonna be mad wordy, BUT THIS STORY KICKS BUTT!

The show was booked by awesome dudes called Happy Fuckers Unite. They put on really amazing shows in Little Rock, and holy shit this show promised to be no exception. This is who was playing:

Videohippos. They're Baltimore/Wham City heros. Also the dude from Adventure was on tour with them doing dem keyz. Too many awesome.

Lesser Gonzolez Alvarez. Another awesome Balitmore dude. All those guys were on their way to Austin for SOUTHBYSOUTHWEST.

B L A C K I E. All caps with spaces. From Houston. Act like you know.

and Ghost Mall. From New York. These dudes. I swear.

OKAY! So here's what happened.

The show was booked at a house, but the Happy Fuckers invited the bands to play under a bridge, which sounded cooler than cool so we was like FUCKIN OKAY.

(except for the first band, Ghost Mall, who turned that house into a freakin fire house of holyshit. We're gonna drag their booties to Iowa. Watch your shit.)

We all rolled down to the bridge to live out our deepest RHCP fantasies, and it was just as kick ass as we wanted to be. We all unloaded and got ready, and then B L A C K I E began his assault.

B L A C K I E was quiet in real life, but when he played he was an absolute monster. The only picture we got that night was of him.

The under the bridge-ness of this show was AMAZING. With B L A C K I E's crazy sound and all the kick ass Little Rock kids going bonk, it was feeling real futuristic. Real William Gibson. Real Cyber Punk. I've been waiting for that future since high school, and let me tell you, it's baller.

BUT THEN! And this is where it goes down. DA FUZZ. A neighbor wasn't having our slanted punk utopia and decided the authorities needed to get involved. So the rest of the bands packed up as B L A C K I E was 'rapping' it up (holla), thinking to go back to the house and finish off the amazing night.

But then the cops showed up. They parked us all in and went around checking all the locals for outstanding warrants. It seemed like it was gonna be all shill and rill, but alas. After a long while the main promoter dude was escorted away in handcuffs. We later found out why, which was is so badass it's deserves it's own paragraph, and only made the William Gibson-ness of the evening even more profound.

Hacking. He was arrested for hacking. Holy fucking shit is there anything more baller? No, I agree, there is not.

Anyways. When we got back to the house we found out more things had gone awry. Turns out the van with the PA in it had been impounded. So the amazing night came to an unfortunate and grinding halt and we we're left with a sensation not disimilar to blue...well.

THAT BEING SAID! Not all was lost. It was still a great night of friend making and (a little) music.

Mar 13: Birmingham, AL and beyond!

In Birmingham Alabama we stayed with our new homie Beau who let us crash on his couch. We found him on couchsurfing.org and he was nice enough to say yes to us bums crashing his beautiful white leather couch machines!

When we got to Birmingham he was practicing with his band. Beau is the one in the middle slappin the mother effin shi out dat bass.

SO we didn't have a show booked in Birmingham, but these dude's had a party that night and were nice enough to let us play a show in their practice space. Sweethearts!

It was overall a very interesting night. These dudes have a very different approach to music than we we're use to...let's talk about it when we get home.

Also we didn't get any pics. OH WELL! But we did get a picture of this the next day.

And then we went to Tupelo Mississippi, where Elvis was born. Ice!

That's the face he was making coming out of the womb. I'm sure of it.

This is the house he was born in. So small.

Also, little known fact bout the Elvinator: he was frozen in carbonite when he was thirteen. Who we think of as Elvis is but a sham. Dom held his hand sadly.

We had a few dayz off to camp in the Georgia Swampz outside of Savannah. This photo is actually a complete lie though. It was taken the morning we left, which was the only day it didn't rain.

In fact, we didn't even sleep in the tent because it wasn't very good at keeping the rain out. Instead we mostly slept in the van, which looked like this.

We watched some dope ass movies!

And ate TRUCK LOADS of $5 large pizza (You heard that right! Crazy!) from Little Ceasers.

Dom got to drive around the campsite. Fuck you Dominic!

We also went to the Atlantic Coast to see what was what. It was keeping it real, as alwayz.

HERE COMES A RANT!!

It's important that you imagine the following being spoken from a Dom who is making the face below (see picture). You see, there needs to be a sweetening to the bitter memories.

We are a band that rolls deep, but we choose to roll deep in deepness of our choosing, and, on occasion, sometimes we stumble into a deepness in which to roll that we are not partial to. Sometimes the sweet escape of sleep will not come, and I get FUCKING PISSED! Sometimes one encounters a person who... has seemingly given up on living for the sake of living. Sometimes that person retreats into an abyss of drunk and high that they never emerge from, letting their wrists atrophy and their heart and soul crumble and fade. We found one and I cannot be sure if he even remembers that he met us, or that we slept on his couches.

THE PROBLEM IS: that he was very nice to us, and let us sleep on his couches. But the thing is, he was too wasted to even know what was going on. He was a person who was incapable of taking care of himself. Really I suppose it was a saddening encounter, but how can one not feel anger at the viewing of a life such wasted.

Alas, life can be a silly beast. We move in waves of sadness and happiness, failure and success, and how we let them wash over us or ride them can determine our circumstance perhaps more than we would like to admit. This night might have been hard, but we are big people, or we at least try to be. And while we may complain for the sake of venting (as vague as it may be) to friends and family, we to hold love in our hearts, because in the biggest sense, we are so very fortunate. I think this photo is telling of this.

Mar 5: Mobile, AL!

We were in the paper in Mobile, Alabama!

We got to The Blind Mule (the super cool venue we were playing) just in time for dinner, which was half off because we're ballas (not sure how to spell that...). Hilary and Dom got sensible, sandwich type meals (blackened chicken and fish and shit), but I had to go ape shit and get this crazy mess of shrimp and sausage and grits. Shit was real.

ALAS! Even in spite of all the SIC press that we got, no one showed up for the show! Not even the other act! Which was real weird - we didn't know you could roll that way. Apparently there was some other bomb ass show just down the bloc that all the regulars where at... Fortunately the owner of the bar was an AWESOME dude and gave us $60 for our troubles and sent us on our way! Thank a billion Blind Mule dude!

So...we saw this shit.

One of the dudes at the bar (the only dude besides the bartender actually...) let us stay at his place! His name was Ryan Jettin - he was a super cool dude, and a really awesome, creative artist as well. We all got a good shot of inspiration from crashing at his house, seeing his works, and hanging and talking until the early morn. Here's just a few of the wicked shits he makes.

In the end, Mobile was a cool place. The no-show show would have been a bummer, but we don't let that shit get us down! Especially when we get payed anyways! :)

Mar 4: New Orleans!

In New Orleans we stayed with the AWESOME girls from the AWESOME band Ixnay! We love you girls! And thanks so much for putting us up and letting us play a show with you! (I can't stop jamming their tunes on myspace...)

New Orleans was BEAUTIFUL! It's great to be on the road, and all the places we've been to have been real special (even you Joplin, MO) - but on the real z, New Orleans was the most special!

We got coffee and these fried bread things covered in powdered sugar.

Then we splurged on dinner. That's tilapia covered in shrimp. Fucking fish on fish, bish!

The show was at an awesome spot called The Circle Bar. It was a really old house in the middle of a bunch of new, swanky buildings in Uptown. It was like a old ship.

The show was SO AMAZING! People were so warm and stoked. New Orleans was a smash! (especially after the debacle of a show the night before)

This dude was there, looking like Simon Brooks on drugs.

After the show we went back to Robin's (of Ixnay) house. She had this in her backyard!

New Orleans was really a treat. Ixnay rules, the city rules, all around win.

Mar 3: Baton Rouge, LA!

This happened.

We had a really nice day in Baton Rouge! We visited the Capital of Louisiana, which was a giant, baller-ass tower.

We tried not to dump.

We dug on some Church.

It was, by all means, a really pleasent day. BUT! When we got the the bar where our show was, we quickly realized we were not at all a good fit for the bill. It was an open mic/jam band night at a sort of redneck bar...damn.

To cut the tension of what was sure to be a shit show, we chilled HARD before our set, which was at 1am. We went deep on the new Lost in the van! FUCKING JOHN LONG-COCK!

Alas, the show was nerve racking and generally bad. We chocked that shit up to experience and floated the fuck on!

All in all, Baton Rouge is a nice city and we had a nice day 4 sure. Kinda like...

Mar 2: Lafayette, LA!

Our cousin Laura (she came to the Coyote Slingshot show in Austin) let us stay with her in Houston, even though we got to her house at 12:30 and she had to go to work at 6:30. Thanks Laura! Cuzins 4 eva! We didn't get a picture of her house, but we did get this photo.

The drive to Lafayette was super chill. Speaking of chill, remember chill-fi vision? Heres a glo-wave-graveyard. Spectacular.

It turns out our cousin Thomas lives in Lafayette! We have so much family in the south! It was really good to see him - he made us chicken for dinner and let us stay at his place. What a dude! Here he is with his pet Sugar Glider, which is actually like a tiny koala that can glide like a badd ass.

When we got the venue we found out OH NO! It had been double booked! We were all 'whatever'. So instead of playing we ate some free food, made some cool photos, and a video masterpiece. It was our first show (I think ever) to fall through, but through the deep power of fucking around, we managed to get some good out of it. Enjoy!

Mar 1: Houston, TX!

Just when we got to Houston we got a fat ass flat tire - right on the freeways in Houston, where the traffic was maximum bonkers!

Fortunately we pulled off the highway right near a Sears Tire place, and they fixed it for FREE! It was an amazing random act of kindness, and it really felt like the Universe smiling down on us. Just look at how stoked Dom is! And how fucking weird he looks!

We played at a venue called Super Happy Fun Land. It was a HuGE, wild space.

The show was really fun! Everyone was super nice and seemed pretty darn down with the Utopia Park wayz. Ice!

We also played with some pretty sweet bands here too: Stolen Library (sorry, no pictures! lamo.), and Voidmate (below). Voidmate are recording an album, and he asked if we might be interested in remixing something! We'd love to!

We sold a bunch of merch too! Thanks so much Houston! Ya'll the best!

Houston was a super nice place and we made a lot of friends. We even got blogged about on Crank the Shiny Tune - thanks Maven Pariah!

Feb 28: Austin, Day 2!

The next morning Hilary and I got up early to roll DEEP in some continental breakfast. Check those Texas shaped waffles!

Later we went to the first Whole Foods ever, where we met up with our BFFs 4 life, Christopher the Conquered (featuring the immaculate hearts of Nate Lodgson and Kate Kennedy, who make more incredible music in their bands Mumfords and Pennyhawk). They've been busy slaying every night on tour with Leslie & the Ly's. Full Iowa take over, no big deal.

It was really awesome to see our Iowa family on the road! We love you dudes so much!

Later our bro Ben Cadwell came down from Dallas. We didn't get any pictures of his face, but we did take a picture of his leg! This is his shark tattoo that Hilary designed. Ice!

He, however, took some baller ass photos of the Utopia Park show at Beerland. Thanx Ben! It was rad to see you!

The Beerland show was so much fun and everyone was so nice! Austin is cool as shit. We got to play with some dank ass bands. Here's Bottle Service.

The next morning we fucked HARD on some migas at a place Super Secret Richard recommended. Shit was real.

Feb 27: Austin, Day 1!

Before we left Ft. Worth Dom felt it important to get a photo of Unlce Karl's kitty and the weird tooth growing out of it's mouth. Here's a real close picture. Ice!

When we got to Austin we met up with Richard of Super Secret Records, who just released the GREAT Coyote Slingshot 7", "First Word of Evil Omens" (which is available on Interpunk! So real!). He was the literal nicest dude in the fucking world, and he bought us dinner at a bomb ass Koren place.

Dom got to hold his vinyl for the first time! So real!

In spite of sucking the rotten teet of a strep throat goblin, Dom played a rocking show at Beerland. I got some video of the Coyote Slingshot epic "Save the Pizza, I Shall Conquer it Later".

Playing at Beerland was real special to us because Ben Snakepit frequents the spot, and we've both read pretty much the entire Snakepit comic (in which our hero draws a three panel comic every day of his life). It's a living piece of our personal historothology!

Our awesome cousins came to the show! From the left - Laura Rabalais, Danielle Rabalais, and Diana Crowe. We love you guys! Thanks for coming!

After the show Super Secret Richard hooked us up with an AMAZ-BALLA hotel right downtown, just a few blocks from the venue! Richard is a Saint of Punk Rock, and we are so grateful!

This is our cousin Nicholas. He's the baddest guitar player in all of Texas, and probably the cosmos, if we're just being honest.

In Dallas we didn't have any show's booked so we were gonna just chill with our Uncle for a few days, but our BFF for life Mr. Coolzey just happened to be playing here, and seeing as he's pretty much a saint, he hooked us up with a show with him, Bru Lei, and Raashan Ahmad. Those dudes are the best! We didn't get any pictures of our show because I stole the camera from Hilary and forgot it in my pocket during our set, but here's Coolzey and Bru, being rad as fuck.

Feb 23: Norman, OK!

On the way to Norman Dom tried to pee into a gallon jug in the van. He'd never done it before and he couldn't quite push it out because we were laughing at him the whole time. This is a photo of him not being able to pee, just to be clear.

Then we discovered we could take pictures through Hilary's pair of yellow sunglasses and make total glo-wave-chill-fi pix. We fucked that shit up real good.

We we're going to play a show at a house called Universe City, but when we got to Norman we found out it had been shut down as a venue! Fortunately the dudes in Norman were ultra cool and determined to get us a show, so we ended up playing a show in our awesome new homie Rhett's living room. Everyone was super nice and Rhett got some sweet vid action.
